UNIVERSITY DIRECTOR, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
PURPOSE OF CLASS
At UConn Health, this class is accountable for directing business development activities and strategic growth initiatives, including the identification, evaluation, development, and implementation of organizational opportunities, partnerships, and initiatives that support institutional goals. This class provides operational leadership for business development activities, evaluates opportunities, develops recommendations, and implements approved strategies that support institutional priorities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Reports to the Vice President of Business Development.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Directs staff of the unit.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Establishes goals, priorities, processes, and performance expectations for business development activities;
Oversees the identification, evaluation, prioritization, and advancement of business growth opportunities;
Directs the development of business cases, feasibility assessments, market analyses, financial models, return-on-investment analyses, and strategic recommendations;
Provides leadership and guidance regarding the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic initiatives, partnerships, programs, and organizational growth opportunities;
Develops and maintains relationships with internal stakeholders, healthcare organizations, academic partners, industry partners, consultants, vendors, and other external organizations;
Leads negotiations and coordination of business development initiatives, partnership opportunities, and collaborative agreements as appropriate;
Advises leadership regarding opportunities, risks, resource requirements, operational considerations, and expected outcomes associated with proposed initiatives;
Establishes reporting processes and performance measures to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of business development activities;
Oversees preparation of executive-level reports, presentations, recommendations, and decision-support materials;
Develops and manages unit resources, staffing plans, budgets, and operational priorities;
Leads the recruitment and hiring of staff, including outreach, interview, and selection;
Interprets and applies applicable laws, regulations, accreditation standards, contractual requirements, and organizational policies;
Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of experience in business development, strategic planning, or healthcare administration
SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
SUBSTITIONS ALLOWED
A master's degree in a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily in a professional office environment and requires use of computer systems and standard office equipment.
Work may involve periods of prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and bending.
May require travel between UConn Health locations and other business development activities.
Work requires the ability to manage competing priorities, meet time-sensitive deadlines, and make sound judgements in a dynamic and evolving environment.
Work requires the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with applicable laws and organizational policies.
May require work outside of normal business hours, based on operational needs.
