Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for construction projects across commercial, municipal, and federal markets. The Estimator will analyze drawings and specifications, perform quantity takeoffs, develop detailed cost breakdowns, and support bid submissions. This role requires strong analytical skills, effective contractor and vendor coordination, and a commitment to compliance with federal and city procurement requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare accurate cost estimates and detailed takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and site information for bidding and budgeting purposes.

Analyze design documents, specifications, and subcontractor proposals to identify scope, exclusions, and risk items.

Develop comprehensive cost breakdowns including labor, materials, equipment, overhead, and contingency.

Obtain, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotations; solicit clarifications and negotiate pricing where appropriate.

Use estimating software and databases to build and maintain scalable estimate models and historical cost records.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and design teams to refine scope, schedule, and constructability considerations.

Prepare bid packages, scopes of work, and pricing narratives for proposals and presentations.

Support value engineering efforts to identify cost savings and constructability improvements without compromising quality or compliance.

Ensure estimates comply with federal, state, and municipal procurement regulations and funding requirements for government projects.

Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid analyses; provide clarifications and revise estimates as necessary.
Qualifications
-
Proven experience as an Estimator in construction or related industries; strong track record preparing accurate commercial and public sector estimates.

Proficiency with estimating processes and quantity takeoffs; strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.

Familiarity with construction practices, means and methods, and cost drivers for labor, materials, and equipment (construction experience is a plus).

Experience with federal, government, and city municipal contracting, procurement regulations, and compliance requirements is highly desirable.

Hands-on experience with estimating and cost tools such as CostWorks, RSMeans, and The EDGE is a strong plus.

Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfortable learning and using estimating software and databases.

Strong communication and negotiation skills for working with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

Relevant degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent experience; professional estimating certification (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator or similar) is a plus.
