Position Summary
The Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) provides recovery-oriented, strength-based support to individuals with mental health or substance use challenges. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the CPSS draws from lived experience to model resilience, promote hope, and assist individuals in developing skills for independence, recovery, and community integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide peer-to-peer mentoring, encouragement, and support for individuals in recovery.
- Model positive coping strategies and effective self-management skills.
- Facilitate individual and group sessions promoting self-advocacy, recovery, and wellness.
- Assist clients with setting and achieving recovery-oriented goals such as housing, budgeting, employment readiness, and medication compliance.
- Help clients develop natural supports and engage in meaningful community activities.
- Support clients in navigating resources for transportation, employment, and benefits.
- Collaborate with clinicians, case managers, and treatment teams to ensure coordinated care.
- Maintain clear and timely documentation in the electronic health record (ICAN/myhealthcarecompany.com) within 24–48 hours of service delivery.
- Uphold confidentiality, ethical standards, and adherence to all DHHS and Medicaid guidelines.
Qualifications
- Must hold current North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) certification.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED required.
- At least one year of experience working or volunteering in behavioral health or recovery support preferred.
- Demonstrated personal experience in recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges for at least one year.
- Strong communication, organization, and boundary-setting skills.
- Ability to complete documentation accurately and promptly.
- Reliable transportation for community-based work and client support.
Schedule & Compensation
- Flexible schedule: day, evening, and some weekend availability.
- Compensation based on billable service rate and experience level.
- Pay structure includes performance-based bonuses for documentation timeliness and client engagement outcomes.
Work Environment
- Field and office-based settings (home visits, community sites, agency offices).
- Supervision provided by a Qualified Professional (QP) and Program Director.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
