The Humane Society of Missouri (HSMO) is searching for a Strategic Giving Officer who will be responsible for developing Major and Planned Giving donors to advance our organization's long-term philanthropic growth. This role manages a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects, oversees key third-party vendor relationships supporting strategic outreach initiatives, and provides expert consultation to donors with complex charitable planning needs. The Strategic Giving Officer plays a critical role in strengthening HSMO's Legacy Society and expanding blended and estate-based giving.
We are considering candidates with non-profit planned giving experience OR someone without that experience if they have a wealth management background. We are searching for someone who wants to work full-time, but we will consider part-time applicants. This role can be structured as a hybrid remote position.
What you'll do:

Manage and grow a portfolio of major and planned gift donors and prospects through intentional identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.

Secure major outright gifts, blended gifts, and planned gifts including bequests, beneficiary designations, trusts, life income gifts, and other estate commitments.

Conduct personalized donor visits and virtual meetings to deepen relationships and align donor passions with organizational priorities.

Develop individualized giving proposals and gift illustrations in collaboration with donors and their professional advisors.

Design and implement meaningful stewardship strategies including events, recognition, reporting, and personalized communications for our Legacy Society donors (approximately 400 members).

Manage third-party vendors responsible for donor mailings and surveys.

Manage our annual telemarketing program designed to generate leads.

Monitor lead generation, prospect engagement, and conversion metrics generated by third party efforts.

Serve as a resource to donors exploring complex gift vehicles including charitable trusts, charitable gift annuities, beneficiary designations, IRA gifts, real estate, closely held stock, and other non-cash assets.

Collaborate with financial advisors, attorneys, and estate planners to facilitate donor intent.

Maintain knowledge of current tax laws and charitable planning strategies.
Who we are looking for:

Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred.

Minimum of 5+ years of experience in planned giving, wealth advising, or estate management.

Proven success in relationship management.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Proficiency in donor database systems is a plus (preferably Raiser's Edge NXT) and Microsoft Office Suite.
