Title: Youth Advocate
Come join a feminist organization with a focus on social justice. Circle is a nonprofit organization whose work culture is founded in a balance of teamwork and autonomy. Circle's collaborative team provides confidential services and support for domestic and sexual violence victim/survivors throughout Washington County VT. Circle is currently hiring for a 20hr to 32hr Youth Advocate, with a flexible week-day schedule that will include 2 evenings to accommodate school aged children. This position is situated at our confidential emergency shelter.
Responsibilities:
- Implement Children’s Programming in the shelter
- Conduct intakes with children entering the shelter
- Assess children and family needs based on intake
- Work with children in shelter to develop positive coping skills; plan and lead educational/therapeutic/recreational activities
- Help residents enroll their children in local schools
- Develop and implement activity groups with families
- Assist residents in accessing community resources related to their children
- Educate Staff and Volunteers about resources available for children and parents in Washington County
- Remain current on the availability of children’s programs and activities throughout the county; keep staff informed of these programs and act as a resource for residents looking for this information
Qualifications:
Administrative Skills
Stong organizational skills
Ability to prioritize and pivot between projects and crisis situations
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form
Ability to develop and maintain strong community partnerships
Social Justice Approach/Lens
Ability to provide trauma informed approaches to working with victim/survivors and their children
Understanding of domestic and sexual violence as one form of oppression that is interconnected to racism, classism, heterosexism and ageism
Basic understanding of the systems and processes which victims/survivors of domestic violence are involved with
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures
Willingness and ability to be on-call on scheduled weekends and evenings.
