ESPORTS PROGRAM LEADER POSITIONS
Work ED is hiring Esport Program Leaders to join our team, working on site at local elementary & middle schools. This position will support our Esports Program operations in Imperial Beach / South Bay Schools After School programs for the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year for grades 3rd - 6th.
- Tentative PROGRAM DATES: July 22nd - September 28th, 2026
- Schedule: Monday- Friday 2pm -6pm (Wednesday's are reserved for Team Meetings)
- Tournaments on estimated to be on Thursdays' until roughly 6 pm
- Virtual weekly meetings Wednesday's

- Must be available hours of the program.
- Must be open to moving between school sites as needed. Candidates must be flexible and open to being reassigned to a different school site if coverage is needed at another location.

ESPORTS PROGRAM
Work ED is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Esports Coach to deliver an exciting Super Smash Bros. curriculum for elementary school students across 11 SBUSD schools. This unique role combines the responsibilities of an instructor and a coach, guiding young gamers through the fundamentals of Super Smash Bros. and fostering competitive spirit in an engaging, supportive environment.
As our Esports Program Lead, you will be instrumental in building a foundational esports program. You'll teach students game mechanics, strategy, and sportsmanship, preparing them for thrilling tournament competitions. The program will culminate in a district-wide championship, bringing together students from all 11 participating schools for an unforgettable event.
Responsibilities:
- Implement an engaging Super Smash Bros. curriculum tailored for elementary school students.
- Instruct students on game mechanics, character abilities, stage knowledge, and competitive strategies.
- Coach and mentor student teams, fostering teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking.
- Organize and officiate inter-school Super Smash Bros. tournaments.
- Ensure a positive, inclusive, and educational environment for all participants.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS
- Plan, prepare, and execute our Work ED curriculum with your students walking them through the different activities and challenges in a variety of subjects.
- Support the Work ED team and your school’s students throughout the weeks of learning.
- Support the next generation of Work ED students to build skills which will help them offset learning loss such as building their confidence and their ability to make friends.
- Support all current and future school relationships from chaperones to leadership.
- Join our industry partners, instructors and leadership in meetings before the programs and regularly to ensure the creation of a cohesive program which will have the desired impact on our students.

QUALIFICATIONS
You are a great candidate if you have:
- Experience in gaming clubs, competitive gaming, or esports coaching are strongly encouraged to apply. This role will involve leading students through organized gaming sessions, helping them develop technical skills, teamwork strategies, and an understanding of gaming as a potential career path
- Current or previous teaching assistant, program operations, youth mentorship, or other leadership in helping youth grow as people
- An interest in helping students discover this career field and connect with them
- Experience in Minecraft, Rocket League, and Super Smash Brothers
- Strong interpersonal and team work abilities supporting a fast paced dedicated team working to constantly innovate in a new space
- Demonstrated passion for esports and its educational benefits.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create a fun, structured, and competitive learning environment.
- Understanding of how to effectively listen to students, parents, educators to understand potential challenges they are facing and be a pillar of support.
- Ability to lead and support our team in leading students, while building a culture of support and warmth
