Northern Manufacturing, a worldwide leader in custom stainless steel fabrication, is looking for an experienced and dependable Shipping Lead to help keep finished products moving accurately, safely, and on schedule.
This is a hands-on lead position. You'll work alongside the shipping team while helping coordinate daily priorities, prepare shipments, solve problems, and make sure finished products leave our facility packaged correctly and ready for the customer.
If you have manufacturing shipping experience, take pride in staying organized, and are comfortable helping lead the work while jumping in wherever needed, this may be a great fit.
What You'll Do
- Help coordinate daily shipping priorities based on customer requirements, deadlines, and production completion.
- Work closely with production and finishing to keep shipments moving on schedule.
- Provide day-to-day direction and support to shipping team members, including assigning work, communicating priorities, and helping train employees.
- Prepare finished products for shipment, including building crates and skids, banding, wrapping, securing, and labeling materials.
- Prepare and verify bills of lading, packing lists, tracking information, freight paperwork, and other required shipping documentation.
- Obtain freight and truck rate quotes and assist Sales and Estimating with shipping quotes when needed.
- Verify part numbers, quantities, condition, packaging, and documentation before products leave the facility.
- Safely load, unload, and move materials using forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
- Identify and help resolve issues that could affect shipping accuracy, timing, or customer expectations.
- Help maintain clean, organized, and safe shipping and receiving areas.
- Look for practical ways to improve packaging, workflow, and shipping efficiency.
What We're Looking For
- Experience in shipping, logistics, or material handling within a manufacturing environment
- Good understanding of shipping documentation, freight, packaging, and material handling
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize multiple shipments and adjust as production schedules change
- Comfortable providing direction, communicating expectations, and holding the team accountable
- Hands-on mindset and willingness to work alongside the team
- Basic computer skills; experience with ERP systems, shipping software, and RF scanners is a plus
- Basic math and measurement skills
- Ability to operate a forklift/tow motor or obtain certification
- Previous lead or leadership experience preferred
