The SBU Driver Mechanic performs vehicle mechanical work beginning with basic assembly and/or removal ofparts, minor repairs such as replacing fuel systems, unit connections and other components.
Duties increase with time and experience on the job. Most advanced work may include fabricating experimentalparts and test fixtures and working from blueprints/drawings. Other responsibilities include driving test vehicles atvarious speeds on varying road conditions.
Weekend overtime is required for this position.
Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of mechanic experience and knowledge of mechanical systems
- Welding Experience
- Basic knowledge of mathematics, reading and writing
- Organizational skills
- Troubleshooting skills
- Ability to use and understand computerized diagnostic equipment
- Automotive background
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate degree
- Apprenticeship or internship in automotive mechanics
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified
- Specialty certifications
