Job Summary
We are seeking a Volunteer Parish/Congregation Nurse to serve as a vital health resource within our faith community. This role offers an enriching opportunity to provide health education, support community outreach initiatives, and promote wellness among congregation members. Ideally, this individual has a heart to join and serve our congregation. This individual will blend professional nursing with spiritual care, serving as a health educator, counselor, and liaison to community resources without providing direct hands-on medical care.
- Health Educator: Teach classes, lead workshops, and write newsletter articles on wellness, disease prevention, and nutrition.
- Health Counselor: Provide personal health and spiritual counseling, assessing the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of congregants.
- Referral Agent: Connect church members with external health and social services, acting as a bridge to the broader healthcare system.
- Support Group Coordinator: Organize and facilitate support groups for grief, caregiving, or chronic illness.
This is a part-time volunteer position growing into a multi-cultural congregation. A one-mile radius around our building includes 4% Asian, 19% African-American, 42% White, and 32% Hispanic or Latino neighbors. We best represent God's Kingdom and God's love when we are together. This is substantive work. We're getting better at approximating God's goal, but we're not there yet. We need to learn from people like you. We believe in the vision that Jesus gave us when he fed the 5,000, a vision in which we'll all be fed and healed at Jesus' feet together. We hope that we can partner with you in his work.
