Geotechnical Laboratories, Inc. (Geolab, Inc.) is seeking a Geotechnical/CMT (Construction Materials Testing) Technician, this position involves performing field and laboratory tests on construction materials like soil, concrete, asphalt, and masonry to ensure compliance with project specifications. Key duties include collecting samples, operating testing equipment, recording data, and preparing reports. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and may involve interacting with contractors and clients, while also supporting project engineers.
Key responsibilities:
Field testing:
- Conducting field tests such as nuclear density testing on soils and asphalt.
- Sampling fresh concrete, base stone, and asphalt.
- Monitoring activities like subgrade backfilling.
Laboratory testing:
- Performing lab tests on soil, concrete, and masonry to determine their characteristics and quality.
- Preparing test specimens, such as concrete cylinders and beams.
Data and reporting:
- Operating testing equipment and performing necessary calculations.
- Compiling, logging, and recording testing data.
- Preparing daily reports and detailed written reports summarizing findings and observations.
Communication and client interaction:
- Serving as a communication liaison between contractors and engineering staff.
- Relaying test results to contractors and clients.
- Attending site meetings.
Safety and maintenance:
- Adhering to safety practices and policies.
- Maintaining and cleaning testing equipment.
- Performing site clean-up.
Skills and qualifications:
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects, such as 50 pounds.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in calculations and data recording.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with safety procedures and equipment maintenance.
- Good communication skills for interacting with team members, contractors, and clients.
