This executive leadership position is responsible for driving national referral growth, admissions, strategic partnerships, market expansion, and business development performance while leading a high-performing team of Business Development Managers and Business Development Representatives across multiple states.

Position Summary
The National Director of Business Development provides strategic leadership for Virtue Recovery's national business development operations. This position oversees the organization's Business Development Managers and Business Development Representatives while developing and executing growth strategies that increase referrals, admissions, census, and market share across all levels of care.
This leader serves as a trusted partner to Executive Leadership, Admissions, Operations, Clinical Leadership, Marketing, and external referral partners to strengthen relationships, identify new business opportunities, and expand Virtue Recovery's presence throughout the behavioral healthcare community.
The National Director is responsible for developing high-performing teams, improving operational performance, expanding referral networks, analyzing market opportunities, and ensuring business development initiatives align with organizational objectives.
Essential ResponsibilitiesExecutive Leadership
- Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing national Business Development team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, professional development, and continuous improvement.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, develop, and retain top-performing Business Development professionals.
- Establish performance expectations, measurable goals, and individual development plans for all direct reports.
- Conduct regular coaching sessions, field visits, ride-alongs, and performance reviews.
Strategic Business Development
- Develop and execute national business development strategies that drive referral growth, admissions, market expansion, and organizational revenue.
- Identify new markets and business opportunities through market research, competitive analysis, and relationship development.
- Develop long-term growth initiatives that support organizational strategic objectives.
- Create territory development plans that maximize referral opportunities and business growth.
- Partner with Executive Leadership to develop innovative growth strategies across multiple states and service lines.
Relationship Development
Build and strengthen strategic relationships with:

Serve as an executive representative of Virtue Recovery within the behavioral healthcare community while promoting the organization's mission, services, and clinical excellence.
Business Performance
- Develop initiatives that increase referrals, admissions, and census across all treatment locations.
- Monitor key business development metrics, referral conversion, market penetration, and organizational performance.
- Analyze referral trends and business intelligence to identify opportunities for continued growth.
- Develop action plans to improve underperforming territories and maximize high-growth markets.
- Ensure business development goals established by Executive Leadership are consistently achieved.
Strategic Partnerships
- Identify, cultivate, negotiate, and maintain strategic partnerships that expand referral opportunities.
- Collaborate with Executive Leadership to develop mutually beneficial healthcare partnerships.
- Identify barriers impacting referrals and implement practical, solution-oriented strategies to improve access to treatment.
- Expand relationships with key decision-makers throughout the healthcare continuum.
Team Development
- Provide ongoing leadership, mentorship, and coaching to Business Development Managers and Representatives.
- Develop standardized onboarding, training, and professional development programs.
- Ensure all team members possess current knowledge of behavioral health services, treatment levels of care, admissions criteria, payer requirements, and referral processes.
- Promote leadership development and succession planning throughout the department.

Operational Excellence
- Ensure timely completion of administrative responsibilities including reporting, budgeting, forecasting, activity tracking, and documentation.
- Utilize CRM systems and performance analytics to monitor referral activity and pipeline development.
- Prepare executive reports summarizing business development performance, market trends, return on investment, and strategic initiatives.
- Maintain compliance with organizational policies and applicable federal, state, and healthcare regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Marketing, Public Health, or related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum five years of progressive business development leadership experience within behavioral health, addiction treatment, healthcare services, or a related industry.
- Experience leading multi-state or regional business development teams preferred.
- Demonstrated success increasing referrals, admissions, census, and organizational growth.
- Experience developing strategic partnerships with healthcare providers and referral sources.
- Strong executive leadership, coaching, and team development experience.
- Exceptional relationship-building, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Experience utilizing CRM platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, and business analytics tools.
- Ability to travel as needed.
