Security Systems Technician / Access Control & CCTV Technician / Low Voltage Technician
We are seeking a motivated and dependable Security Systems Technician to install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain low-voltage security and communications systems at commercial and industrial facilities.
The ideal candidate will have experience with access control systems, CCTV/video surveillance, low-voltage cabling, networking, and security equipment. Candidates with a strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn will also be considered, as training may be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling, including Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6A, and fiber-optic cabling.
- Install and maintain CCTV cameras, video surveillance systems, NVRs, DVRs, monitors, and related equipment.
- Install and configure access control systems, including card readers, keypads, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, locks, and controllers.
- Install and maintain security devices and equipment in commercial buildings, warehouses, offices, and other client facilities.
- Install and route cabling through ceilings, walls, cable trays, conduits, warehouses, offices, and other designated areas.
- Perform rack-and-stack installation and organization of security and network equipment in IT rooms and server rooms.
- Terminate and test cables and troubleshoot connectivity or equipment issues.
- Assist with the installation and configuration of network-connected security devices.
- Identify device and cable locations based on drawings, work orders, site conditions, and client requirements.
- Perform system testing to verify proper operation of cameras, access control devices, alarms, and related equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair low-voltage wiring, security equipment, and network connectivity issues.
- Maintain accurate labeling, documentation, and cable organization.
- Follow all company safety procedures, installation standards, and client requirements.
- Communicate professionally with customers, project managers, and other technicians.
- Travel to various customer locations as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Vocational, Technical, or Business School education strongly preferred.
- Previous experience with security systems, access control, CCTV, structured cabling, telecommunications, or low-voltage systems preferred.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts such as Ethernet, IP addresses, switches, and network-connected devices is a plus.
- Experience with access control panels, card readers, electronic locks, CCTV cameras, NVRs/DVRs, or alarm systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with Fluke testing equipment is a plus; training may be provided.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with hand and power tools.
- Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Good vision and hearing.
- Ability to read and follow wiring diagrams, floor plans, drawings, and installation instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be willing to travel to customer and project locations.
- Must be willing to learn new security technologies, networking equipment, and installation methods.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and move tools, cable, ladders, and equipment.
- Ability to work from ladders, lifts, and elevated work areas.
- Ability to work in ceilings, mechanical spaces, server rooms, warehouses, offices, and other commercial environments.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work overhead for extended periods.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and testing equipment.
Training
Training may be provided to candidates who demonstrate a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, good judgment, and a willingness to learn. Training may include low-voltage cabling, access control systems, CCTV/video surveillance, networking fundamentals, cable testing, equipment installation, and troubleshooting.
