JOB DESCRIPTION: Associate Superintendent Of Support Services
Purpose of Position:
The Associate Superintendent of Student Support Services is responsible for providing oversight of the following departments: Special Education, Student Support Services, and Social Services
Qualifications:
Current Alabama Teacher's Certification and/or eligible with an endorsement in supervision and administration or related experience and teaching experience
Minimum of five years successful experience as building administrator or system supervisor
Prior experience in both operational and student support areas
Knowledge and/or experience in working with the assigned areas
Computer Skills:
- General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use email, internet software, and Microsoft Office software. Must learn other software used by the district.

- The employee is regularly required to speak and listen. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or squat. The employee may be on their feet standing for over an hour. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to focus, and peripheral vision.
Essential Duties:
Identifies objectives for area responsibilities based upon the identified goals and objectives of the school board and superintendent
Monitors the effectiveness of all programs and initiatives provided to support student learning and achievement
Develops performance objectives and prepares a professional growth plan supporting school system goals
Collaborates with staff members to identify performance objectives for their professional growth plans and approves their professional growth plans
Recommends to the superintendent specific policies, procedures, plans, and programs for assuring effective district/school operations
Ensures that performance observations and evaluations are made of all assigned personnel
Monitors new and changing laws and regulations affecting the school system and prepares new policies or revisions for presentations to the superintendent and school board
Recommends appropriate use of facilities to meet changes in student/family demographics
Makes presentations to the school board when required by the superintendent
Conducts periodic staff meetings
Stays informed on current student support trends and practices and disseminates professional information and materials to schools
Supervisors and oversees various programs under support services umbrella
Establishes a positive relationship with parents, students, co-workers, volunteers, and other visitors
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Employees. Evaluation will be conducted by the building principal or his/her designee.
Terms of Employment: 12-months (240 days) 7.5 hours per day usually Monday through Friday. At Will Employee subject to the Students First Act of 2011 and other applicable state and federal laws. Daily work schedule will be determined by the supervisor or his/her designee. Work assignments and schedules are subject to change.

SPECIAL NOTE : For employees starting work after the beginning date of the work term, the salary will be pro-rated and based on the number of contract days left in the school year, divided by the remaining months in the contract year.
