Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate medical claims using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) coding systems to insurance providers
- Review medical records and documentation to ensure proper coding and billing compliance
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits prior to billing
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
- Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers to resolve billing discrepancies or issues
- Ensure adherence to healthcare regulations, privacy laws, and coding standards in all billing processes
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or related healthcare administrative roles
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and healthcare coding systems including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD coding, DRG assignments, and medical billing procedures
- Familiarity with EMR systems and EHR platforms for efficient data entry and claim processing
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately for proper coding
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in managing multiple claims simultaneously
- Effective communication skills for liaising with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare staff
- Knowledge of medical collection practices and compliance standards in healthcare billing
