Controller
Our non-profit client is seeking a Controller for their team. This full-time, direct-hire role is perfect for a detail-oriented accountant who would enjoy managing the full accounting cycle for a small, mission-driven organization.
Responsibilities of the Controller
- Manage a small team (2-3) of accounting professionals
- Perform monthly close for multiple entities
- Oversee AP, AR, and cash management activities
- Maintain accurate, compliant financial records
- Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for review by CFO
- Perform property-level accounting functions for affordable housing entities
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax preparers as needed
- Perform additional accounting and finance-related duties to support the organization
Qualifications of the Controller
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for full cycle accounting and month-end close
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
- Experience in affordable housing, LIHTC, or multi-entity real estate accounting preferred
- Experience with Yardi, Sage 50, or related software preferred
- Familiarity with VT and/or NH regulatory environments a plus
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- High degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills
