Senior Embryologist
Position Summary:
Precision IVF is seeking a full-time, highly skilled Senior Embryologist to join our assisted reproductive technology laboratory team. This position operates under CLIA standards and supports high-complexity laboratory services in accordance with CMS, Department of Health and Human Services, SART, FDA, and applicable state and federal regulations.
The Senior Embryologist is responsible for independently performing advanced embryology and andrology procedures, supporting IVF patient care, maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality, assisting with laboratory operations, and serving as a resource and mentor for laboratory staff. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, excellent documentation practices, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced embryology and andrology procedures including oocyte identification and grading, sperm preparation, insemination, fertilization assessment, embryo culture, embryo grading, and preparation for transfer
- Independently perform intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in accordance with departmental quality standards, including expected benchmarks for normal fertilization and low degeneration rates
- Conduct embryo culture, monitoring, evaluation, and documentation through all stages of embryo development, including blastocyst culture
- Perform embryo, oocyte, and sperm cryopreservation and warming/thawing procedures following established protocols
- Perform assisted hatching and other micromanipulation procedures as required
- Assist with or perform trophectoderm biopsy for PGT when applicable and based on laboratory protocols and competency
- Conduct semen analysis and sperm preparation for IVF, IUI, and other fertility treatment procedures
- Evaluate and troubleshoot specimen collection, sperm processing, fertilization, embryo development, and cryopreservation-related issues
- Assist with oocyte retrievals and embryo transfer procedures in coordination with physicians, nurses, and clinical team members
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation of all laboratory procedures, patient identifiers, chain of custody, specimen handling, and communications
- Ensure patient identification and verification using two identifiers in compliance with laboratory protocols
- Maintain strict compliance with CLIA, CAP or other applicable accreditation standards, SART reporting requirements, FDA tissue regulations, HIPAA, OSHA, infection control standards, and internal laboratory policies
- Support SART data collection, validation, and reporting as needed
- Participate in quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing, laboratory audits, incident review, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Perform routine quality control, equipment monitoring, instrument maintenance, incubator checks, alarm response, and scheduled calibrations
- Identify and respond to safety hazards, equipment alarms, environmental changes, and emergency situations according to established protocols
- Maintain laboratory inventory, assist with ordering supplies, monitor expiration dates, and ensure appropriate stock management
- Support implementation and review of laboratory policies, procedures, SOPs, and workflow improvements
- Train, mentor, and support junior embryologists, andrology staff, and new laboratory employees
- Serve as a technical resource for physicians, nurses, staff, and patients regarding embryology and laboratory processes
- Support research activities, manuscript preparation, scientific presentations, and internal data analysis as needed
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a patient-centered approach in all laboratory and clinical interactions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or a related scientific field required
- Master’s degree in reproductive biology, embryology, clinical laboratory science, or a related field preferred
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an IVF laboratory required
- Demonstrated competency in embryology procedures, including oocyte handling, embryo culture, fertilization assessment, embryo grading, cryopreservation, and embryo warming/thawing required
- Independent experience performing ICSI required
- Experience with assisted hatching required
- Experience with trophectoderm biopsy and PGT workflows preferred
- Experience in andrology procedures, including semen analysis and sperm preparation for IVF and IUI required
- Experience working in a CLIA-regulated or accredited laboratory environment required
- Prior experience training or mentoring embryology laboratory staff preferred
Certifications:
- Embryology or andrology certification through a recognized professional organization preferred
- Continued professional development in ART, embryology, and reproductive laboratory practices expected
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of reproductive physiology, embryology, gamete biology, and assisted reproductive technology
- Proficiency in IVF laboratory techniques, micromanipulation, embryo culture, cryopreservation, warming/thawing, and andrology procedures
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in laboratory documentation
- Ability to work independently while strictly following protocols, regulatory requirements, and quality standards
- Ability to troubleshoot laboratory, specimen, equipment, and workflow-related issues
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong computer, data entry, and Microsoft Office skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable regulatory requirements

Working Conditions:

- Fast-paced, high-complexity environment requiring precision, focus, and strong attention to detail
- May require early morning, weekend, holiday, emergency, or extended laboratory coverage based on IVF cycle needs
- Requires participation in emergency response procedures, equipment alarm response, and critical laboratory coverage as needed
Physical Requirements:

Pay: $60,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
