Federal Construction Site Safety Health Officer
Overall Description:
In this dual-hatted role, we are seeking a SSHO/Superintendent that will be responsible for management of the Contractor Health and Safety Program. As the Superintendent, this oversees total project supervision to ensure that budgets and schedules are met and projects are completed in accordance with project contract document and site while serving as senior technical advisor on projects
Key Responsibilities include:
- Thorough understanding of all aspects regarding construction. (technology, compliance, equipment, methods)
- Responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing the safety and loss prevention program for a company's construction department.
- Ensures that each project site conforms to all applicable safety regulations.
- Visit each active project site daily to ensure full compliance with all health and safety requirements.
- Must be at each project site at all times when work is being performed.
- Responsible for assigning safety inspectors to sites and ensuring that follow-ups are conducted when necessary.
- Provides solutions when sites are found to be in violation of safety standards.
- Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.
- Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
- Assist our site super with misc. activities such as keeping up with logs and working with QC to check status of submittals.
- Solid understanding of construction scheduling
- Shall provide on-site supervision
- Submit detailed daily and weekly progress reports
- Schedule and coordinate subcontractors and material suppliers
- Attend all status meetings, site visits and pre-final/final inspections
- Must be at the project site when work is being performed
- Must arrive at the job site within 30 minutes of telephone direction from the (CO), Contract Specialist or Construction Inspector
- Excellent communication, organizational, supervisory, and planning skills are a must
- Familiar with storm water pollution prevention, water pollution control programs associated with EPA requirements
- Experience with Traffic Controls on Highways, Sign relocations, and diverse experience with Civil/Land Development, Erosion and Sediment Control work such as: asphalt/pavement, concrete, earth work, retaining walls, fencing and gate installation, guardrail approved systems and installation methods and some electrical experience/understanding required
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree (preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience or greater in construction (federal, commercial, and industrial) with at least 3 years’ experience as a construction supervisor
- 1 - 3 years supervisory experience
- EM 385-1-1 certification required
- OSHA 30 training certificate
- CPR/ First Aid training
- CQM-C Certification is a plus.
