PRINCIPAL DUTIES

Communicate and promote the YMCA mission, goals and objectives to employees, volunteers and the community at large.

Promote a safe and positive atmosphere during scheduled working hours.

Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
-
Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
-
Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
-
Identifies problem areas to ensure the safety of participants and keep all work areas clean and presentable.
-
Plan and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
-
Work as a staff team member with all School Age staff.
-
Ensure that all School Age Program areas, equipment and supplies are maintained in an orderly and safe manner.
-
Provide quality experience for the children in the School Age Programs.
-
Adhere to schedules and planned activities.
-
Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and special activities that are YMCA functions.
-
Complete daily record keeping requirements such as attendance, check in/out system, help administer swim test, and watch children in the pool area.
-
Communicate positively with campers.
-
Work with the appropriate YMCA Director to plan structured activities.
-
Arrive to work as scheduled wearing staff shirt.
-
Notify supervisor of all incidents immediately, and discipline problems as needed.
- Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Family Services Director.
EXPERIENCE/PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Willingness to carry out the mission of the YMCA and its programs.

Ability to see that all business and safety records and procedures set up by the corporation are completed accurately within the defined time schedule.

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to maintain all personal certifications needed to serve in this position.

Ability to interpret, as well as, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.

Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
-
Computer experience in a Windows environment and Microsoft Office.

Ability to learn and utilize other software programs.

Work to continue personal competency through education, outside literature, seminars, etc.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
-
At least 16 years of age.
-
Child Abuse Training prior to working with children.
-
CPR, First Aid, AED certification and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire.
-
Experience working with children ages 5-14 years old.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
