Position Summary
We are seeking skilled Horizontal Bandsaw Operators with 2–5 years of experience cutting metal to join our aerospace manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up and operating horizontal band saws to cut aerospace-grade alloys — including titanium, Inconel, and other heat resistant alloys — to precise lengths and specifications to supply our CNC lathe department. You will play a critical role in ensuring raw material is accurately prepared and ready for machining, directly supporting production quality and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate horizontal band saws to cut aerospace alloys including titanium, Inconel, and heat resistant alloy bar stock to specified lengths.
- Read and interpret work orders, cut lists, engineering drawings, and material specifications to determine cut dimensions, quantities, and sequencing.
- Select and install appropriate saw blades based on material type, thickness, and required finish; adjust blade speed, feed rate, and coolant flow accordingly.
- Measure and verify cut parts using precision measurement instruments (calipers, scales, squares, etc.) to ensure dimensional accuracy and conformance to specifications.
- Stage and organize cut material for delivery to CNC lathe operators, ensuring parts are properly identified, labeled, and free of burrs or sharp edges.
- Maintain accurate cut logs, work order documentation, and material traceability records in accordance with quality requirements.
- Perform routine saw maintenance including blade changes, coolant maintenance, vise and feed mechanism adjustments, and general cleanliness.
- Inspect incoming raw material for surface defects, dimensional issues, or material discrepancies; report non-conformances to the supervisor.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and personal protective equipment requirements, including proper handling of long bar stock and heavy material.
- Collaborate with CNC lathe operators, material handlers, and supervisors to prioritize cutting schedules and maintain production flow.
- Complete work orders, traveler documentation, and production reporting accurately and on time.
Required Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience operating horizontal band saws or similar metal cutting equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience cutting aerospace-grade or other hard alloys including titanium, Inconel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, cut lists, and basic engineering drawings or material specifications.
- Skill with precision measurement tools including calipers, scales, and squares.
- Knowledge of blade selection, speeds/feeds, and coolant application for various aerospace alloys.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy with a zero-defect mindset.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods; comfortable handling long bar stock and heavy raw material.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an ISO9001 or AS9100 certified manufacturing facility.
- Familiarity with material traceability requirements and aerospace raw material documentation (mill certifications, certs of conformance).
- Experience with semi-automatic or CNC-controlled band saw equipment.
- Vocational training, apprenticeship, or coursework in manufacturing, machining technology, or a related field.
- NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) certification is a plus.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Manufacturing floor environment; exposure to machine noise, coolant fluids, metal chips, and varying temperatures.
- Regular use of PPE including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, and cut-resistant gloves.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift; frequent handling of bar stock and raw material up to 50 lbs.
- All positions follow a 3.5 days on / 3.5 days off rotating schedule with 12-hour shifts, averaging approximately 42 hours per week.
