JOB The Mechanical Engineer 2 position with the Department of Corrections (DOC) offers an exciting opportunity to apply your technical expertise to essential state facilities while growing your career. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
This role supports mechanical engineering projects across correctional facilities by helping to develop designs, review project documents, and assist staff with technical problems. You ensure that drawings, calculations, and field work follow strong engineering standards. As a Mechanical Engineer 2, you will perform the following duties:

Design Development: Help prepare construction drawings, specifications, and calculations that meet codes and engineering standards

Budget Planning: Assist with preparing project cost estimates and gathering information needed for bidding throughout the design process.

Field Assistance: Support inspection staff by helping look into mechanical issues at correctional facilities and providing basic technical input.

Submittal Review: Review contractor project submittals and provide recommendations for approval, disapproval, or possible alternatives.

CADD Utilization: Use computer aided drafting and design (CADD) software to complete drafting tasks, update design documents, and support engineering work

Issue Resolution: Identify and solve mechanical or system issues through inspections, investigations, and project review
Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week

Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to three days per week after the initial 6-month training period. During the training period, you must report in-office to 1920 Technology Parkway, Mechanicsburg. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Mechanicsburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
