Salary: $25.33 per hour
Job Summary:
This is an entry level position in crime analysis. Duties include entering data, identifying and reporting on trends, patterns and/or new developments related to crime in Meridian for law enforcement activities and crime prevention purposes. Assistance is available from a Senior and/or Lead Crime Analyst. Performs related work as required.
- Collects, analyzes, evaluates and enters data related to crime in Meridian; Identifies crime patterns and/or trends and prepares related reports;
- Performs inferential statistical analysis of relevant historical and current crime data;
- Confers with departmental personnel to report on findings and trends;
- Create and run queries using essential tools such as Data Analysis and Mapping (DAM) in New World RMS or Data Analysis and Query System (DAQS) or Web Crash Analysis Reporting System to extract data from various databases or department records management systems, in order to present data and statistics. Process Adjudications and declines to update RMS and ITS;
- Conducts criminal background research for investigators gathering, analyzing, and evaluating data for pertinent use from criminal databases, jail or court systems, various social media websites, etc.;
- Researches Leads-on-Line for stolen property by querying databases connecting property to victims and/or suspects;
- Creates, updates, and organizes information for publication that includes bulletins for officer safety, special events, informational notices with various graphic designs, etc.;
- Prepares, maintains and updates reports into the appropriate format for various users;
- Reviews crime reports, related criminal data, and information on a daily basis to assist in identifying or consolidating information for later scrutiny and/or use in crime statistics, bulletins, and articles;
- Assists in the development of a data base operation for the collection and analysis of crime data;
- Checks for accuracy, timeliness, and security of entries;
- Maintains dissemination logs for reports, maintenance, and updates;
Any other duties or responsibilities as may be assigned.

Job Specifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus 2 years working in a law enforcement setting, preferably in crime analysis, or educational emphasis in statistical analysis, plus education or practical experience in data collection and computer operations;
- Familiarity with the dynamics of the criminal justice system and law enforcement in particular;
Familiarity with the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), the Uniform Crime Reporting System (UCR), the National Crime Victimization Survey, and the Idaho Crime Victimization Survey.

Licensing & Certifications:
- Must obtain Basic and Advanced ILETS/NCIC certifications;
- In this position each person will be working towards a California Department of Justice Crime and Intelligence Analyst Certification, International Association of Crime Analysts Certification or International Association of Crime and Intelligence Analysis Certification.
