Duties
- Prepare the operating room with appropriate sterile supplies and equipment for cardiovascular surgeries, including valve repairs, bypass procedures, and catheterizations.
- Assist surgeons during procedures by maintaining a sterile field, managing instrumentation, and ensuring optimal patient positioning.
- Monitor patient vital signs continuously using advanced monitoring systems such as Cerner and Epic electronic health record (EHR) systems to document real-time data accurately.
- Administer medications and IV infusions with precision, including anesthesia agents and pain management drugs, adhering strictly to aseptic techniques.
- Conduct thorough preoperative assessments and postoperative evaluations, including physical examinations and vital sign checks to ensure patient stability.
- Collaborate with anesthesia providers and other healthcare professionals to manage airway and ventilator support during complex surgeries.
- Educate patients and their families about procedures, recovery processes, and postoperative care plans to promote understanding and compliance.
Qualifications
- Valid nursing license (RN) with current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Proven experience in cardiovascular operating rooms or cardiac catheterization labs within a hospital setting.
- Strong knowledge of cardiac physiology, anatomy, and diagnostic evaluation techniques such as echocardiography or sonography.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate medical documentation and coding (ICD-10/ICD-9).
- Experience with sterile processing, suturing, catheterization procedures, and infection control protocols essential for maintaining aseptic technique.
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments such as Level I Trauma Centers or specialized teaching hospitals.
- Excellent patient assessment skills combined with proficiency in medication administration, IV insertion, venipuncture, and tube feeding management.
- Knowledge of trauma medicine, acute pain management strategies, and post-acute care practices including discharge planning.
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatric (PICU), geriatrics (memory care), or patients with developmental disabilities enhances team versatility.
