Overview
This is a hands-on, high-volume role that demands precision, quick thinking, and a passion for veterinary anesthesia in a fast-paced environment where cases turn over rapidly. As a Veterinary Anesthetist at TVSC, you will work closely with the Surgeons, Surgery Technicians and Assistants, and Medical Support Team to deliver exemplary patient care. The Veterinary Anesthesia Technician is responsible for the safe administration and monitoring of anesthesia for patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role works closely with veterinarians and surgical staff to ensure optimal patient care before, during, and after anesthesia.
Responsibilities:
Prepare, maintain, and troubleshoot all anesthesia equipment, including anesthetic machines, monitoring devices (ECG, blood pressure, capnography, pulse oximetry, temperature), and fluid pumps.
Develop and execute individualized anesthesia protocols in collaboration with veterinarians, tailoring plans to patient signalment, procedure type, and ASA status.
Perform pre-anesthetic assessments, premedication, induction, maintenance, and recovery of patients.
Continuously monitor and document vital parameters throughout the perioperative period with a focus on early detection and rapid response to changes.
Manage multi-modal pain control, including constant-rate infusions, locoregional blocks, and post-operative analgesia.
Ensure rapid and smooth patient recoveries to support same-day discharge goals.
Respond promptly to anesthetic emergencies and implement appropriate interventions.
Maintain accurate anesthesia records, controlled-drug logs, and patient charts in accordance with state and DEA regulations and in Vet Radar and other practice management software systems.
Assist with pre-operative patient preparation, IV catheter placement, radiographs and surgical prep as needed.
Clean, sterilize, and restock anesthesia equipment and supplies between cases to keep the OR running at peak efficiency.
Participate in daily case huddles, post-op rounds, and continuous improvement of anesthesia protocols and communicate effectively with the surgeons and rest of the medical support team regarding patient care.

Experience
Current RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician) license in good standing in North Carolina.
Minimum 3 years of experience as an RVT with a strong focus on anesthesia (preferred: experience in a high-volume surgery center, specialty hospital, or emergency setting).
Proficient in multi-parameter monitoring, advanced airway management, and anesthesia for ASA I–III patients.
Working knowledge of common veterinary anesthetic agents, analgesics, and emergency drugs.
Strong IV catheter placement and venipuncture skills.
Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure in a fast-paced OR.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills; must work seamlessly with surgeons, other technicians, and client-service staff.
Detail-oriented with exceptional record-keeping and time-management abilities.
Physical ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
Pay: From $26.00 per hour
