JOB The City of Hanford is seeking to fill one (1) vacancy in the Public Works Department - Parks Division.
To organize, assign and review the work of assigned staff engaged in construction, repair and maintenance of parks, streets, and/or sewers and storm drains; to perform duties requiring specialized knowledge; and to provide administrative support to assigned supervisor.
This is the advanced journey level in the Maintenance Worker series. Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the level of responsibility assumed, complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken, by the amount of time spent performing the duties, and by the nature of the public contact made. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes within this series, including providing technical and functional supervision over assigned personnel and performing inspection of maintenance and repair work in progress. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned areas of responsibility. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Plan, prioritize, and review the work of staff assigned to a variety of maintenance and repair functions.
Develop schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner.
Participate in evaluating the activities of staff, recommending improvements and modifications; inspect maintenance and repair projects in progress; review and control quality of work.
Provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
Order supplies and equipment for work projects.
Perform the most difficult work related to skilled maintenance, repair and installation projects.
Operate, maintain and repair a variety of hand and power tools.
Perform manual labor and/or operate heavy and medium equipment on a maintenance crew as needed.
Complete a variety of logs, documents, and reports related to maintenance projects.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.
Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.
When assigned to Parks:
Apply herbicides, fungicides and pesticides in a safe and effective manner; perform a variety of cement and asphalt work; renovate and maintain stream bed areas including maintenance of trails and installation of vegetation and erosion control devices.
Perform related duties as assigned. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION The application screening will involve a competitive evaluation of relevant education, training, and work experience, followed by a written examination and/or an interview before an Oral Board to identify the most qualified candidates.Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee applicants an interview, and the screening committee's decision is final. Candidates deemed eligible for appointment to the position will be placed on the City’s Certified Eligibility List. Applicants will receive written notification regarding the results of all phases of the recruitment process leading up to the establishment of the Eligibility List, if applicable.
