The Shepherd Investigation Group (SIG) is seeking experienced investigators and operational team leaders to conduct criminal defense investigations, surveillance, witness interviews, background investigations, fugitive investigations, and specialized investigative assignments throughout Metro Atlanta and North Georgia.
Qualified investigators may also be assigned Bail Recovery Agent duties as a secondary assignment, depending on experience, training, licensing, and client needs.
SIG is a growing investigative agency founded on over 20 years of combined federal, state, and local law enforcement experience. We are looking for disciplined professionals who possess sound judgment, integrity, professionalism, and the ability to work independently in demanding environments.
Position Details
- Independent Contractor (1099)
- $30.00–$35.00 per hour, based on qualifications, experience, and assignment
- Team Leader opportunities available for highly qualified candidates
- Flexible scheduling
- No guarantee of work, minimum hours, or full-time employment
- Assignments are offered based on client demand and operational needs
Because SIG is a newer organization, applicants should understand that this position does not guarantee any minimum number of hours, regular assignments, or full-time employment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Former U.S. Military preferred
- Former Federal, State, or Local Law Enforcement preferred
- Prior investigative, surveillance, corrections, security, or executive protection experience
- Georgia Private Investigator License or ability to qualify
- Clean criminal history
- Clean driving record
- Excellent report-writing skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Reliable transportation
- Laptop computer and smartphone
- Strong communication and decision-making skills
Preferred Experience
- DEA, FBI, ATF, ICE, U.S. Marshals, or other federal investigative experience
- Criminal defense investigations
- Surveillance operations
- Witness interviews
- Skip tracing
- Open-source intelligence (OSINT)
- Social media investigations
- Court preparation assistance
- Supervisory or Team Leader experience
Bail Recovery Agent Duties (Secondary Assignment)
Qualified investigators may be assigned bail recovery operations after successfully completing all required training and meeting applicable legal requirements.
Contractors selected for bail recovery assignments must complete the required Georgia 8-hour Bail Recovery In-Service Training before participating in any fugitive recovery operation. Additional agency-specific training may also be required before deployment.
Required Training
All required onboarding, licensing, certifications, and initial training are the responsibility of the Independent Contractor.
Contractors are responsible for all associated costs, including training, licensing, certifications, ammunition, and required equipment.
No investigator will be deployed until all required training has been successfully completed.
Required Equipment
Independent Contractors are responsible for furnishing and maintaining their own equipment, including but not limited to:
- Reliable vehicle
- Firearm (when legally authorized and approved)
- Body armor
- Laptop computer
- Smartphone
- Digital camera or surveillance equipment
- Flashlights
- Binoculars
- Professional investigative attire
- Office supplies and internet access
- Any additional equipment necessary to safely and professionally perform investigative assignments
Duties
- Conduct covert surveillance operations
- Perform criminal defense and civil investigations
- Conduct witness interviews
- Complete background investigations
- Prepare detailed investigative reports suitable for court proceedings
- Collect, document, and preserve evidence
- Conduct mobile and stationary surveillance
- Assist attorneys, insurance companies, businesses, and private clients
- Work with law enforcement agencies when appropriate
- Maintain confidentiality in all investigations

Compensation
