Full time, 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Starts at $16 per hour with year end bonus based on annual earned wages. Paid time off and generous employee discount available.
Overview
Touch of Finland has been a family-owned business in Marquette since 1981, bringing Finnish design, food, and sauna culture to the Upper Peninsula and shipping it to customers across the country. We're looking for a full-time Sales Associate to join our small team.
This isn't a stand-at-the-register job. Our clerks help customers find the right gift, learn the stories behind the brands we carry, keep the store looking sharp, and pack the online orders that go out every day. You'll get to know Marimekko, iittala, Moomin, Finnish sauna traditions, and salmiakki — no prior knowledge needed, just curiosity. We'll teach you the rest.
We're a small crew, which means the work varies and everyone pitches in. It also means we build roles around what people are good at.
No two days here look the same. Some are quiet, and you'll work on one project start to finish. Others, you'll be halfway through setting up a display when three customers come in and a shipment arrives at the back door. You'll need to be comfortable setting something down, handling what's in front of you, and picking the first thing back up later.
Because we're a small team, showing up matters more here than at a bigger store. When someone's out, it's felt immediately. We're flexible when life happens and we'd rather you stay home when you're sick — we just need people who communicate early and show up when they say they will.
What You'll Do
- Welcome customers, answer questions, and help them find the right item or gift
- Share what you know about our products and the Finnish traditions behind them
- Ring up sales and handle cash, cards, and returns accurately
- Receive incoming shipments, check in product, and keep backstock organized
- Build and refresh displays, restock the floor, and keep the store looking its best
- Pick and prepare online orders for packing and shipping
- Answer phone and email questions from customers near and far
- Take on other projects/tasks that fit your strengths as they come up
What We're Looking For
- A friendly, patient manner with customers and coworkers
- Genuine curiosity and willingness to learn about the products we carry
- Comfortable juggling several things at once and shifting gears when the day demands it — and equally comfortable working steadily on your own when it's quiet
- Attention to detail
- Dependable attendance and early communication about schedule changes — with a team this size, everyone counts on each other
- Ability to lift and move boxes up to 50 lbs and stay on your feet through a shift
- Retail, customer service, or shipping experience is a plus, but we'll train the right person
- Weekend and holiday-season availability.
