JP Logistics & Consulting LLC (JPLC) is looking for a full-time Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support Picatinny Arsenal, LRC Maintenance, Supply, and Transportation services that support the installation’s mission.
Salary: $ 36.87 per hour
Start Date: August 30, 2026
Place of Performance: Picatinny, NJ
Hours of Operation : The core hours for the LRC are 0700-1530 Monday-Friday/ except federal holidays. May be required to work outside of core hours as required.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools. This worker operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency. The mechanic welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers to engage in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust, and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Vehicle Maintenance & Repair:
- Perform all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on AFVs, including preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and component repairs.
- Conduct repairs involving automotive mechanical systems, diesel engines, electrical systems, wiring, hydraulics, and electronic components.
- Provide towing support and recovery operations for AFVs as required.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and basic machine shop tasks in support of vehicle maintenance and component repair.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable technical manuals, industry standards, and base operational requirements.
Operational Requirements:
- Operate AFVs safely and in accordance with all regulations and required precautions.
- Demonstrate sufficient experience to maneuver, test, and verify operability of AFVs following repairs.
Certification & Documentation:
- Maintain current certification or documentation of equivalent industry experience validating qualifications to perform maintenance on installed vehicle engines and systems.
- Document all maintenance activities, certifications, and qualifications as required throughout the contract period.
- Diesel engine experience is highly desirable.
Supply & Logistics Support:
- Assist with logistics functions, including ordering, receiving, tracking, and inventorying repair parts and maintenance supplies.
Coordinate with supply personnel to ensure parts availability and timely completion of maintenance tasks.

Qualifications:
- Certification in heavy-duty vehicle maintenance or documented equivalent industry experience.
- Demonstrated experience in automotive mechanical repairs, wiring, electronics, welding, and machine shop fundamentals.
- Experience performing maintenance on diesel engines (preferred).
- Current state-issued driver’s license; required for operation of AFVs on base.
Ability to meet all safety requirements and adhere to AFV operational regulations.

Ability to lift, move, and manipulate heavy vehicle components as required.

Education :
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
