Position: Director of Individual Tax Services
(Tax Manager / Senior Tax Manager Candidates Encouraged to Apply)
Location: Fully Remote (U.S.) or Madison, Waunakee, Brookfield, or East Troy, Wisconsin
Start Date: August 2026
We're looking for an experienced tax professional who wants more than another busy-season job. This is an opportunity to lead and grow our Individual Tax Services practice within a young, entrepreneurial public accounting firm that is intentionally building a different kind of culture—one focused on outstanding client service, teamwork, technology, flexibility, and long-term sustainability.
Reporting directly to our Managing Director of Taxes, you'll have the opportunity to own and lead our Individual Tax Services practice, overseeing the preparation, review, workflow, and client relationships for individual income tax engagements that are not connected to business tax clients.
Whether you prefer to work remotely or from one of our Wisconsin offices, you'll have the support and autonomy to make a meaningful impact on both our clients and our firm.
What You'll Do
· Lead our Individual Tax Services practice.
· Manage the workflow and timely completion of individual income tax returns.
· Review straightforward and complex federal and multi-state individual income tax returns.
· Serve as the primary relationship manager for individual tax clients.
· Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services throughout the year.
· Supervise, mentor, and develop tax professionals.
· Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and workload during tax season, and throughout the year.
· Research and resolve complex tax issues.
· Develop and improve processes that increase efficiency and enhance the client experience.
· Collaborate with firm leadership on technology, workflow improvements, and future growth initiatives.
· Help shape the future direction of this growing practice area.
What We're Looking For
· CPA license, active.
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
· 8+ years of public accounting tax experience.
· Significant experience reviewing and signing individual (Form 1040) income tax returns.
· Experience supervising staff and managing client relationships.
· Strong technical knowledge of federal and multi-state individual taxation.
· Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
· Experience using modern tax preparation software and paperless workflow systems.
· Collaborative leadership style.
· Passion for developing people, improving processes, and delivering exceptional client service.
Why You'll Love Working Here
We're a growing firm with an entrepreneurial mindset. Rather than following the traditional public accounting model, we're intentionally creating a workplace where talented professionals can build rewarding careers while maintaining balance. We believe great client service begins with taking care of our people. Here, you'll find:
· Opportunity to own and lead an important practice area.
· Flexible scheduling, including the ability to work fully remote.
· Reasonable busy-season expectations focused on planning, teamwork, and efficiency.
· Strong administrative and operational support.
· Modern technology and continually improving processes.
· A collaborative leadership team that values new ideas and innovation.
· Professional development and long-term career growth.
· Competitive compensation and performance bonus opportunities.
· CPA licensing and continuing education support.
Who Will Thrive Here
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys leading people, building client relationships, improving processes, and creating a practice—not simply reviewing tax returns. If you're looking for the opportunity to have a real voice in how a practice operates while helping shape the future of a growing firm, we'd love to hear from you.
