Staff Accountant / Accounting & Administrative Specialist
Company: Acme Homes & Apex MHP Fund
Location: Cornelius, NC (in-office)
Type: Full-time
Compensation: Competitive, based on experience
About Us
We're a manufactured housing company that focuses on retail and community acquisition and operation — 26 communities, retail locations, and an in-house property management arm. We run lean, move fast, and lean heavily on modern tooling (including AI) to punch above our headcount. We're growing, and our accounting function is scaling with us.
The Role
We're hiring one sharp, versatile Staff Accountant to support our accounting leadership (our outsourced controller and our internal CFO) across our property portfolio and operating entities. This is a hands-on, multi-entity role that blends day-to-day accounting with the administrative glue that keeps a multi-company operation running.
If you like clean books, owning a process end-to-end, and using every tool available to do twice the work in half the time — keep reading.
What You'll Do
Reconciliation
· Perform monthly bank, credit card, and intercompany reconciliations across multiple entities (operating companies + 26 properties)
· Investigate and resolve discrepancies; keep the general ledger clean and audit-ready
· Maintain reconciliation schedules and support month-end close
Accounts Payable (AP)
· Process vendor invoices, code to the correct entity/property/GL account, and prepare payment runs
· Manage vendor records, W-9s, and 1099 prep
· Reconcile vendor statements and resolve billing issues
Accounts Receivable (AR)
· Manage tenant/customer billing, post receipts, and track aging
· Follow up on outstanding balances and support collections
· Reconcile AR sub-ledgers to the GL
Administrative & Operational Support
· General accounting administration across the operating companies and properties
· Support payroll coordination, document management, and data entry/cleanup
· Assist senior accounting staff and the controller with ad-hoc reporting, audit requests, and special projects
· Help keep our accounting systems (QuickBooks, Rent Manager) accurate and organized
What You Bring
· 2+ years of accounting experience (staff accountant, bookkeeper, or AP/AR specialist)
· Solid working knowledge of reconciliation, AP, and AR — you've owned at least two of these in a prior role
· Hands-on experience with QuickBooks; Rent Manager (or similar property management accounting software) a strong plus
· Comfort working across multiple entities — you don't get lost when the chart of accounts spans a dozen companies
· Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through; you close loops without being chased
· Excel proficiency
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
The Non-Negotiable: You Have to Get AI
This is not a "comfortable with technology" line item. We mean it.
We expect you to not only be comfortable with AI tools, but to understand them at a high level and actively leverage them in accounting and finance work — using AI to accelerate reconciliations, draft and analyze schedules, parse and code invoices, summarize data, catch errors, and eliminate the manual grind. If you've already built AI into how you do accounting (or you're hungry to), you'll fit right in. If AI makes you nervous, this isn't the seat for you.
The candidates who thrive here treat AI as a force multiplier — they do the work of two people because they know how to point the tools at the right problems. Our company runs lean because we’re using a fleet of agents to automate workflows, aggregate and parse data, and decrease manual touch. We’re looking for somebody who really understands what agentic AI can do.
Why You'll Want This
· Real ownership across a growing, multi-entity operation — not a narrow box
· A company that wants you to use the best tools, not one that fights you on it
· Direct line to senior accounting leadership and exposure to fund-level work
· Room to grow as we scale
