We are seeking a Director of Real Estate Development to lead the development of affordable housing projects from concept to completion, including new development and redevelopment of existing properties. This position reports directly to the CEO and leads project development strategy, selection, funding, and execution through completion.
What You’ll Do
- Develop affordable housing projects from early planning through construction completion and closeout.
- Identify and evaluate new housing opportunities aligned with Cathedral Square’s mission, funding priorities, affordability goals, and project feasibility.
- Develop funding strategies, project budgets, schedules, and financing applications.
- Coordinate permitting, design, legal, contractor procurement, construction oversight, and project completion.
- Support redevelopment and capital improvement efforts across Cathedral Square’s existing portfolio.
- Maintain strong relationships with municipalities, funders, nonprofit partners, and housing organizations across Vermont.
- Represent Cathedral Square in public policy, advocacy, and community housing conversations.
- Supervise development staff and the Facilities Manager, while overseeing outside contractors and consultants.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Community Development, Business, liberal arts, or a related field. At least five years of experience in affordable housing real estate development.
- Comprehensive understanding of federal and state housing programs, including LIHTC and HUD affordable/supportive housing programs.
- Experience with real estate negotiations and development.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work in complex partnerships.
- Expert knowledge of Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Vermont.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
