Job Title: Quality Manager (Hands-on / Playing Leader) Location: Camden, NJ Salary: $105,000 - $115,000 / Year (Negotiable based on experience) Work Hours: Flexible start hours available between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM
[About the Opportunity]
We are recruiting for a Global Passenger Rail Car Manufacturer looking for a standalone, practical, and text-and-field Quality Manager for their specialized satellite facility in Camden, NJ.
At this facility, we don't believe in sitting in an office or just delegating tasks from a desk. Our Camden site is a tight-knit, highly autonomous environment. There is no large team to manage or dictate orders to—you are the standalone quality expert who rolls up your sleeves, gets on the shop floor, and owns the entire quality process from physical inspection to PC documentation.
[Why this role is perfect for a Mid-level Leader:]
Our client deeply values real-world technical skills. This role is an ideal match for a Former Foreman, Lead Inspector, Senior Technician, or Field Quality/Warranty Engineer who wants to step up into a Manager title while remaining actively engaged on the floor.
[Key Responsibilities]
- 100% Hands-on Inspection: Roll up your sleeves and perform physical inspections directly on the passenger rail cars to ensure top-tier workmanship (wiring, mechanical fits, and interior/exterior installations).
- Self-Driven Documentation: Personally manage spreadsheets, log non-conformance reports (NCRs), and draft technical documents. You will complete your own report writing and data tracking from start to finish.
- Solo Quality Ownership: Act as the sole point of contact for quality at the facility, seamlessly handling both the hands-on floor inspection and the office-side administrative wrap-up independently.
- On-Site Collaboration: Work side-by-side with engineers and technicians on the shop floor, engaging in practical, technical troubleshooting.
[Qualifications & Requirements]
- Technician-Rooted Background: Proven experience as a Foreman, Lead Inspector, Senior Technician, or Field Quality/Warranty Engineer in the rail transit, automotive, aerospace, or heavy manufacturing industry.
- Actual Inspection Experience: Demonstrated history of performing physical, hands-on inspections on vehicles or heavy machinery (using calipers, gauges, and reading blueprints/schematics).
- Computer Literacy: Strong ability to independently use Microsoft Excel, Word, or quality tracking software to organize data and write technical reports.
- The "Roll-Up-Your-Sleeves" Mindset: A strong preference for a small-factory environment over a large corporate office. You must thrive in an "individual contributor" style role where your value is driven by your daily impact, not the number of your direct reports.
