Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated and dependable Industrial Electrical Apprentice to join our maintenance team. This position will assist experienced electricians in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial electrical systems and equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and an interest in developing a career in industrial electrical maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist journeyman and master electricians with the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial electrical systems, machinery, and equipment.
- Support troubleshooting efforts on motors, motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLC systems, and electrical distribution equipment.
- Install conduit, cable trays, wire, and electrical components according to applicable codes, blueprints, and specifications.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, organized work area.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
- Participate in on-the-job training and classroom instruction as required by the apprenticeship program.
- Respond to maintenance calls and assist with emergency repairs as needed.
- Accurately complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Enrollment in, or willingness to enroll in, a recognized electrical apprenticeship program preferred.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to read measuring instruments and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent attendance, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous industrial, manufacturing, or construction experience.
- Basic knowledge of motors, controls, PLCs, and industrial automation systems.
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Forklift, aerial lift, or confined space certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods.
- Must be able to work in industrial environments, including exposure to heat, noise, dust, and moving machinery.
Work Environment
- Industrial manufacturing and processing facility.
- May require overtime, weekend work, and on-call availability.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
