Assistant Manager – Barrel & Bean Coffee
Location: Morgan Hill, CA
Job Type: Full-Time (32–40 hours per week)
Pay: $25.00–$30.00 per hour DOE, plus participation in the shared tip pool

Barrel & Bean Coffee is a locally owned specialty coffee shop dedicated to serving exceptional coffee, creating meaningful customer connections, and fostering a positive team culture. We are looking for a motivated Assistant Manager who is passionate about hospitality, leadership, and helping a growing business succeed.
This is a hands-on leadership role. The Assistant Manager works alongside the team serving customers, making drinks, coaching staff, and helping ensure smooth daily operations.
Position Summary
The Assistant Manager supports daily café operations by leading shifts, developing team members, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring an exceptional customer experience. This role works closely with management to support staff, improve operations, and help create a welcoming environment for both customers and employees.
The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, customer-focused, and comfortable stepping into any role needed to support the team.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead shifts and support daily café operations
- Train, coach, and support barista development
- Help onboard and mentor new team members
- Provide constructive feedback and assist with performance conversations
- Foster positive communication and teamwork
- Assist with conflict resolution and problem-solving
Customer Experience
- Create a welcoming environment for every guest
- Build strong relationships with regular customers
- Deliver exceptional customer service
- Resolve customer concerns with a calm, professional, solutions-focused approach
- Represent the Barrel & Bean brand and values in every interaction
Operations
- Coordinate daily workflow, task assignments, and staff breaks
- Ensure recipes, procedures, cleanliness, and quality standards are consistently followed
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs to management
- Assist with opening and closing responsibilities
- Maintain organized and efficient workspaces
- Support implementation of new systems and operational improvements
Team Support
- Step into customer service, barista, or operational roles whenever needed
- Maintain a flexible schedule and assist with shift coverage when operational needs arise
- Complete assigned tasks with professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail
Qualifications
Preferred Experience
- 1+ year of supervisory, leadership, or management experience
- Coffee shop, café, restaurant, hospitality, or retail experience
- Experience training or coaching employees
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Schedule Requirements
