Director, Annual Giving - Remote
National Catholic Reporter (NCR) is seeking a Director of Annual Giving to lead strategies that grow, engage, and retain our annual giving community. This role focuses on cultivating NCR's mid-level donors giving $1,000–$9,999 annually, strengthening recurring membership, and creating meaningful engagement experiences that inspire long-term support.
Working across Advancement, Marketing, and Editorial, you'll develop donor stewardship strategies, engagement programming, and conversion initiatives that move readers into lifelong supporters of NCR's mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute annual giving strategies to grow and retain mid-level donors and recurring members.
- Design donor engagement opportunities, including webinars, virtual and in-person events, learning series, and behind-the-scenes editorial conversations.
- Lead cultivation and stewardship strategies for approximately 2,000 mid-level donors through scalable, personalized engagement.
- Partner with Marketing and external vendors to develop solicitation strategies, donor messaging, and conversion campaigns.
- Build donor journeys that move first-time and emerging donors into sustained annual giving.
- Collaborate with Advancement, Marketing, Editorial, Finance, Technology, and Operations to create an exceptional donor experience.
- Use CRM data and analytics to evaluate donor engagement, retention, and pipeline performance.
- Hire and supervise an Annual Giving & Engagement Manager as organizational growth allows (anticipated 2027).
Qualifications
- 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience with revenue-focused portfolio responsibility in annual giving, donor engagement, or stewardship.
- Demonstrated success developing donor cultivation, retention, and engagement strategies.
- Experience planning and executing donor-facing events, webinars, or community engagement programs.
- Working knowledge of Salesforce or a comparable CRM, including donor segmentation and reporting.
- Strong writing and communication skills with the ability to create compelling donor communications.
- Experience managing multiple cross-functional projects and collaborating across teams. Familiarity with PM tools such as Monday or Asana a plus.
- Ability to use donor data to inform fundraising strategy and measure results.
- Interest in using AI tools to improve fundraising, engagement, and workflow efficiency.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with nonprofit media, journalism, membership organizations, or faith-based nonprofits.
- Familiarity with Catholic social teaching or the Catholic nonprofit landscape.
- Experience collaborating closely with marketing teams.
- Knowledge of Salesforce NPSP or comparable nonprofit CRM platforms.
- Experience managing grant-funded engagement initiatives.

Compensation and benefits
This remote position will be full-time. Salary is commensurate with experience and other relevant factors, in the range of $80,000 - $90,000 annually. NCR offers the following benefits for full-time employees (employees working 24 hours or more per week):
