Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented Proctor with experience supporting students with specialized accommodations to administer tests in standardized and classroom testing environments. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a solid understanding of special education accommodations, and the ability to maintain a calm, structured, and supportive testing atmosphere. This role is essential in upholding testing integrity while ensuring that all students—including those with IEPs, 504 Plans, or other documented accommodations—receive supports they are entitled to.
Duties
- Supervise and support students during testing sessions, ensuring full compliance with testing protocols, guidelines, and documented accommodations.
- Implement testing accommodations (e.g., extended time, small-group or individual settings, read-aloud per guidelines, assistive technology, breaks) in accordance with IEPs, 504 Plans, or other eligibility documentation.
- Educate High School students on test procedures, rules, and expectations prior to the examination, using clear and accessible language appropriate for diverse learners.
- Communicate calmly and effectively with students, including those with learning differences, emotional or behavioral needs, or sensory considerations.
- Organize and prepare the testing environment, ensuring materials, assistive devices, technology, and accessible seating arrangements are ready and functioning.
- Monitor the testing environment closely for irregularities, while remaining attentive to student needs such as anxiety, attention challenges, or behavioral escalations.
- Provide appropriate, non-instructional assistance to students—particularly those with special accommodations—while ensuring fairness and test security.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, accommodations provided, and any incidents that occur during testing sessions.
- Collaborate with special education staff, case managers, and classroom teachers to ensure accurate implementation of testing accommodations.
- Uphold confidentiality with all student information, including disability status and accommodation needs.
- Other duties assigned by the Assessment Coordinator.
Experience
- Previous experience working with students in a special education setting is strongly preferred.
- Experience implementing or supporting IEP or 504 Plan accommodations is a plus.
- Moderate to high comfort level with technology (laptops, internet browsing, email, login credentials, Google Workspace, digital/web-based testing).
- Familiarity with classroom management techniques and trauma-informed practices is advantageous.
- Experience in secondary education or standardized testing environments is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a calm, structured testing environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with diverse groups of students and staff.
- Calm, patient, yet firm professional demeanor; ability to de-escalate and redirect when necessary.
This position offers an opportunity to positively support the educational experience of diverse learners—while ensuring a fair, accessible, and secure testing environment.
