JOB The Senior Health IT System Administrator applies advanced expertise in healthcare information technology to maintain and optimize critical infrastructure supporting Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as RPMS and NextGen. This role ensures secure, reliable access to health data through robust server management, virtualization, storage, and cybersecurity practices. The position leads health IT infrastructure projects, ensures compliance with HIPAA and tribal health policies, and serves as a technical resource for clinical and administrative teams. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Monitor, analyze, and maintain enterprise servers and virtualization platforms (VMware, Nutanix AHV, Hyper-V) supporting EHR systems.

Act as project lead for evaluating, selecting, and implementing health IT hardware, storage, and infrastructure upgrades.

Manage enterprise storage platforms (Pure Storage, EMC/Dell Storage) for secure health data storage and retrieval.

Administer hybrid Active Directory environments and ensure integration with healthcare applications.

Optimize Microsoft 365 services for healthcare operations, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.

Apply service packs, firmware, drivers, and security patches to maintain compliance with HIPAA and health IT standards.

Maintain Windows Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, DNS, and DHCP for health IT environments.

Perform scheduled backups, disaster recovery, and archiving health data and EHR systems.

Develop and enforce health IT security policies, connectivity standards, and backup/restore procedures.

Ensure cybersecurity practices meet HIPAA and tribal health directives; remediate vulnerabilities and prepare compliance reports.

Train healthcare staff on cybersecurity awareness and safe computing practices.

Provide technical leadership and mentoring to IT staff on health IT systems administration.

Support multi-site healthcare operations, including clinics and satellite offices.

Collaborate with other agencies to ensure reliable IT services for patient care.

Assist management in developing health IT operational manuals, policies, and procedures.

Maintain accurate documentation of health IT systems, configurations, and procedural changes.

Participate in on-call rotation and respond to critical health system issues outside normal hours.

Establish preventive maintenance schedules for health IT infrastructure.

Perform other duties as assigned by the HSD and/or IT Executive Director or management.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Health Information Technology, or related field plus five (5) years of health IT experience; OR ten (10) years of equivalent work-related experience.

Experience with EHR systems such as RPMS and NextGen is required.

Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft, VMware, Nutanix) preferred.
Special Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.

Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain one within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination from this position.
