Position Summary:
As part of a management team, the Food Service Supervisor supervises assigned kitchen staff and ensures tasks are completed by following state and federal regulations and facility policies and procedures. In addition, the Food Service Supervisor checks the tray line for each meal served for accuracy. Weekend and holiday shifts are required.
This position is considered “Essential.” The incumbent must report to work regardless of extreme weather or other conditions.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Suffolk County Food Handlers Certificate (or must become certified within 6 months of position)
- 2+ years of experience in a leadership role in the kitchen (supervisor or manager), with related healthcare experience.
- 2+ years of experience in either long-term or acute care facility
- Computer Literate
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes and regulations pertaining to food service
- Ability to read, write, and speak English and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as appropriate
Preferred Qualifications:
- 120-Hour Dietary Managers Course
- AA or BS in Hospitality or Health Care Management
- Knowledge of and experience working with Unionized staff
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Opens and closes the department according to proper procedures.
- Meets with a.m. and p.m. supervisors to discuss and resolve any issues and change.
- Finds coverage for hourly staff as needed and adjust schedule as necessary in payroll system.
- Supervises, evaluates, train, and disciplines employees.
- Ensure call downs are brought up to units within 15 minutes.
- Review supervisor logs daily for staffing concerns, equipment/production problems, and work assignment sheets
- Enforce departmental sanitation policy and procedures. Ensure sanitation standards, safety, and infection control procedures as required by the various regulatory agencies.
- Check and document sanitation and cleanliness of all work areas, including pantries, in accordance with government standards.
- Enforce timeliness and accuracy of tray services according to departmental policy.
- Work closely with dietician team to address special dietary needs and resident concerns.
- Conduct performance appraisals of staff according to established procedures.
- Monitor and record food temperatures regularly to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- All other duties as assigned by Director and/or Assistant Director of Food Services at LISVH.
