About the Role
FILO is seeking a detail‑oriented and decisive Loan Underwriter to evaluate and decision indirect auto loan applications while supporting efficient funding workflows and maintaining strong dealer relationships. This role is essential to ensuring credit quality, operational accuracy, and exceptional service delivery to our dealership partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and decision indirect auto loan applications in accordance with FILO underwriting guidelines and credit policies
- Communicate credit decisions clearly and professionally to auto dealerships, including deal rehashes and required follow‑up
- Negotiate loan structure and exception requests with dealerships within approved parameters
- Conduct borrower interviews prior to funding to verify loan, vehicle, and documentation accuracy
- Review, audit, and assist with funding loan packages to ensure completeness and compliance
- Deliver timely application turnaround to support efficient dealer workflows and funding timelines
- Provide professional, courteous, and responsive service to all FILO clients and dealer partners
- Manage and document loan package exceptions in accordance with internal policies
- Support additional loan operations activities as needed, including rate surveys, dealer buybacks, and related tasks
- Serve as backup support for loan funding when approved by the President or Vice President
- Work collaboratively within a team environment to promote consistent service excellence
- Maintain respectful, constructive working relationships with colleagues to support a positive workplace culture
- Perform additional internal duties as assigned by a supervisor, Vice President, or President
Position Requirements
- Strong attention to detail with understanding of loan documentation and basic accounting concepts
- Proven ability to work with urgency, manage priorities, and consistently meet deadlines
- Prior experience in indirect auto lending is strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to make impartial, well‑reasoned credit decisions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to function as a positive team player while managing multiple tasks and shifting priorities
- Commitment to following FILO policies regarding client contact and communication
- Demonstrated professionalism and respect in all interactions with colleagues and clients
Work Conditions
- Ability to work a schedule that includes Monday through Saturday, with staggered Saturday and evening rotations
- Work performed in an office cubicle environment with moderate noise level, or remotely
- Requires extended periods of computer use, visual focus on a screen, and regular communication via phone and email
Compensation
Salary Range: $70,000 – $85,000 annually, depending on experience
