Job Summary:
Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring the safety of Quarry patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Essential Functions:
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies - administer first aid as needed.
- Enforce Quarry policies, rules, and regulations.
- Ensure safety of patrons before, during, and after normal business hours, including special events outside of normal business hours such as private rentals and aquatics programs.
- Inspects quarry for cleanliness and safety concerns.
- Responsible for clean-up of facility which includes, stacking chairs, racking beach, garbage pick-up and sanitation.
- Provides general information to patrons.
- Responsible for representing the Park District in a professional manner.
- Conduct sessions of swim lessons as requested by the Aquatics & Facilities Supervisor on an as needed basis.
- Perform all jobs and tasks within guidelines and rules of District’s safety program.
Education and Experience:
This position requires the completion of two years of high school or 16 years of age and three years of experience in recreational or competitive swimming.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Complete all Aquatic certifications (Star Guard/CPR/ First Aid).
- Strong swimming and/or lifeguarding skills.
- Aptitude to perform under high pressure time sensitive situations.
- Ability to communicate with the public.
- Understand and anticipate customer’s needs as well as support a customer service environment.
- Ability to portray a professional image of the District.
- Adhere to the time and attendance policy.
- Adhere to the dress code policy.
- Adhere to the District's CORE Values.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Ability to perform multiple “sand-grabs” from the 14ft deep end.
- Ability to submerge to a depth of 10 feet, retrieve a bowling ball, and bring it to the surface.
- Ability to complete a continuous 100-meter swim.
- Ability to tread water for two minutes: one minute hands-free, followed by one minute using hands.
- Requires frequent sitting and walking with occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
- Occasionally lifts and/or moves items weighing up to 30 pounds, rescues may require lifting up to 300lbs with assistance.
- Most activities are performed outdoors; including sunny, hot, humid and wet conditions.
- May be occasionally exposed to chemicals associated with normal beach maintenance.
- Exposure to a quiet noise level while in office and a moderately loud level while outside.
- The Quarry is open 11:30am-7:00pm; shifts may begin 9:00am and evening programs till 8:30pm - shifts may vary.
*Starting Rate: $17.00
