Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Utilize site plans, area maps, blueprints, and electronic equipment to locate underground electrical cables and/or other underground utilities as required.
· Operate company vehicles in a safe and law-abiding manner.
· Transport location equipment and supplies to assigned sites; clean and maintain location equipment.
· Ensure proper maintenance and security of company vehicles and locating equipment.
· Thoroughly review tickets prior to and following all utility locate.
· Maintain accurate records of all work completed, including site drawings or photographs.
· Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings.
· Collect information needed to carry out new surveys, using source maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records, and other relevant information.
· Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
· Compile information necessary to stake projects for construction, using engineering plans.
· Conduct surveys to ascertain the locations of natural features and human-made structures on the Earth's surface, underground, using electronic distance-measuring equipment and other surveying instruments.
· Lay out grids and determine horizontal and vertical controls.
· Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points.
· Set out and recover stakes, marks, and other monuments.
Qualifications:
- Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle report.
- Able to use a computer and other electronic equipment.
- Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunication, gas and/or electrical systems.
- Adjust and operate surveying instruments such as electronic distance-measuring equipment.
- Must be able to read a map.
- Experienced in production locating

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and drive a motor vehicle. The employee is required to work with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally move (e.g., manhole covers or similar items) as required by the job. The employee must be able to work in inclement weather. This job requires the use of both close vision and distance vision. Some heavy lifting (25 – 50 lbs.) may be required.
