Job Description:
Perform specialized firefighting work in driving, operating and maintaining firefighting equipment, fighting fires, and crash/rescue operations.
Principal Responsibilities:
- The operation of fire apparatus and other equipment at emergency scenes and the maintenance of departmental equipment, buildings and grounds.
- Uses firefighting equipment available to confine and extinguish fires.
- At the appropriate time and place within an structure, performs the task of ventilation.
- Recognizes and reports changing fire ground conditions to superior officers.
- Operates assigned equipment in compliance with established standards and guidelines.

- Maintains the integrity of the crash/fire scene.
- Performs salvage and overhaul duties to prevent increased property loss.
- Participates in a comprehensive station training program.
- Complies with ORFD Fire Department Policies.
- Trains daily on physical training.
- Keeps abreast of new techniques, equipment use and pertinent information by reviewing fire service publications, manuals and journals.
- Organizes and actively participates in all department public education, community service programs instructing diversified audiences.
- Participates in the preparation and conduction of Pre-fire plans.
- May be required to serve as Acting Officer in absence of assigned personnel.
Standard Work Hours: 24 hour rotating shifts.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Working knowledge of the Firehouse reporting system.
- Considerable knowledge of firefighting and rescue principles, practices.
- Considerable knowledge of the hazards involved in fire/crash/rescue work and the related safety precautions.
- Working knowledge of the operation of a variety of firefighting equipment.
- Working knowledge of departmental rules and regulations.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of assigned fire-fighting equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in routine and emergency situations.
- Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully yet firmly with the public.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain physical fitness standard
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $47,000.00 - $51,696.00 per year
