Required Education and Experience
- Possession of a Washington State Wastewater Treatment Operator Level I certification or higher.
- Possession of a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- High school diploma or GED and preferably graduated from a technical program relating to the field.

Job Description
The operator is an independent position on a day-to-day basis with support from other operators when necessary. The operator is expected to operate various types of secondary treatment systems on a day-to-day basis. Most laboratory analysis is conducted onsite and is the responsibility of the operator.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator performs all levels of operations and maintenance of various small MBRs or conventional wastewater treatment plants. The Operator ensures that the plant processes meet all regulatory requirements on a continual basis, and that established policies and procedures for plant operation are followed. The Operator assumes responsibility for safe work practices and environmental conditions on the assigned shift. The Operator’s work is performed under the general supervision of the Senior Operator and in accordance with a schedule that may include weekends, holidays, rotating shifts or other hours as assigned. Work performance is generally evaluated on the basis of compliance with standard operating and maintenance procedures, proper operation of the plant, adherence to safety standards and other established performance criteria.
Qualifications
The following knowledge, skills and abilities are essential and critical to successful performance in this position.
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of wastewater treatment operations, including treatment equipment systems and control systems and computer-based testing and analysis equipment.
- Principles of electronics, instrumentation, pumping systems and hydraulics
- Applicable Federal, State and local laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
Skill Level:
- Proficient use of office equipment including personal computers and related software applications.
- General mechanical and electrical aptitude.
Ability to:
- Troubleshoot wastewater process control problems relating to either/or liquid and solid streams.
- Read, interpret, apply and explain codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Work effectively on several projects concurrently and with specific deadlines.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Interact with others utilizing tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Establish and maintain an effective safety program.
- Periodically perform strenuous physical activity.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Must be able to pass a drug test.

Wastewater Operator Level 1 salary: $25.50 - $28.50 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
