Position Summary
The CDL‑A Driver is responsible for safely delivering hardwood lumber and related products to customer locations while representing Hardwood Industries in a professional manner. This role operates within a continuous improvement–focused environment, where drivers are encouraged to improve safety, efficiency, customer service, and delivery accuracy. This position does not require over‑the‑road travel and is primarily a Monday–Friday schedule.
Schedule & Travel Expectations

Monday through Friday work schedule

No over‑the‑road (OTR) travel required

1–2 trips per month to Eastern Washington requiring overnight stays

Lodging provided at local area hotels
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-
Represent Hardwood Industries in a friendly, professional manner at all customer locations

Maintain safe work zones at pickup and delivery sites
-
Adhere to assigned delivery schedules and route plans
-
Perform thorough pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections
-
Conduct load checks to ensure all materials are properly secured
-
Ensure vehicle and load compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
-
Deliver product and provide invoices upon completion of each delivery

Load and unload trailers as needed using forklifts (Hyster) at company locations or yards

Safely hand‑unload materials at customer sites when forklifts are not available

Communicate clearly with dispatch, warehouse, and customers

Operate safely in adverse weather conditions including rain, snow, and ice

Participate in ongoing safety, training, and continuous improvement efforts

Perform other duties as assigned

Valid CDL‑A license

Ability to pass pre‑employment and random drug screens

Commitment to attending CDL‑A classes as scheduled and successfully passing required written and driving exams

Previous CDL‑A driving experience preferred (training provided)

Strong work ethic and reliability

Ability to lift 30–100 pounds when required

Dependable transportation to and from work

Residency within the Portland Metro Area or Willamette Valley corridor preferred
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

Stand, walk, climb in and out of vehicles, bend, and reach

Use hands and arms to secure loads and handle materials

Lift up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
