MILLWORK ENGINEER
Reports to Operations Manager | Full-Time, Exempt | Fountain Valley, CA
Base: $70,000 to $90,000 + Performance Bonus + Full Benefits
For the builder who turns exceptional design into exceptional craftsmanship
We Are Looking for People of Character
Not just someone who hits KPIs, though you will hit them. Not just someone who translates a beautiful design into a beautiful kitchen, though your work will make that possible every day. We are looking for a person who earns trust the old-fashioned way. Through integrity. Through genuine care. Through showing up for their people, day after day.
We believe the manner in which we do our work is as important as the work itself. Serving people genuinely is how you unlock performance that competitors cannot replicate, because it cannot be bought. It must be earned.
This is a family-built company that earns its place in the market by treating every customer and every team member with respect and dignity.
The Role
You are the technical bridge between our projects, our design team, and our workshop. You review layouts before they are released to production, translate design intent into accurate, production-ready documentation, and remain engaged through installation to ensure the finished product is built exactly as designed. You orchestrate production feasibility and timing, coordinating all related parties so every project moves in rhythm to completion.
In-depth product and technical training will be provided to support your success in the role.
What You Will Own
Field Accuracy
- Capture precise field measurements and document actual site conditions, including the details only caring experts foresee: obstructions, utilities, out-of-square and out-of-plumb walls, and site readiness.
Design-to-Production Translation
- Review layouts, shop drawings, and production documentation for accuracy and manufacturability, then verify them against reality.
- Resolve design conflicts, missing information, and constructability issues at the stage where the fix only costs a conversation, not a remake.
- Engineer custom cabinetry solutions that balance design intent, manufacturability, and installation requirements; review and approve material and hardware selections.
Production Coordination
- Hand off custom orders to the shop with a clear technical briefing and serve as the fast, reliable source of answers when production has questions.
- Coordinate with the warehouse and production teams to ensure installation crews arrive on-site fully prepared with the correct products, hardware, drawings, installation details, and tools.
Installation and Follow-Through
- When needed, visit worksites before, during, and after installation to ensure cabinetry and stone are installed accurately to the design and to confirm customer satisfaction.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready project files, including measurements, before-and-after photos, marked-up drawings, revisions, and sign-offs.
What Excellent Looks Like in This Role
- Production trusts your numbers enough to cut without hesitation because you have earned that confidence, order after order.
- Designers value your reviews because your feedback helps projects run smoothly and keeps customers happy.
- Installers open your site notes and find the answer before they need to call.
- Remakes caused by measurement or drawing errors become rare enough that people notice.
- Customers feel the distinction. It is not a transaction. It is a trusted relationship built over time.
What You Bring
- Craftsmanship and the discipline to follow the checklist on the hundredth kitchen as carefully as you did on the first.
- At least 3 years of experience, ideally 5+, in custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, casework, or closely related manufacturing or construction detailing; millwork shop or installation experience is strongly preferred.
- Proven field-measurement accuracy and fluency in reading shop drawings, floor plans, and elevations.
- Clear, professional communication. You can tell a designer a layout will not fit and a builder a site is not ready, and both still like working with you.
- A bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, industrial design, or a related field is strongly preferred; equivalent hands-on millwork experience will be considered.
- Proficiency in CAD, ERP/MRP systems, and Microsoft Excel; experience with cabinet software such as AutoCAD, 2020 Design, Cabinet Vision, Mozaik, or Microvellum is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to jobsites across Southern California; Saturday availability as project schedules require.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary of $70,000 to $90,000 plus performance bonus based on individual, team, and company performance.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance | 401(k) with company match | Paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave | Employee discount.
- Free on-site lunches three times per week.
- Long-term career growth within a stable, family-owned company that genuinely values your ideas and aspirations.
Our Commitments to You
- Real authority over the quality gate. When you determine that a project is not ready for production, it does not move forward.
- Direct access to the business owner, without unnecessary layers or politics, and real influence over how this company builds.
- High-performing design and production teams, an engaging showroom environment, and a diverse customer base.
- A workplace where your integrity is respected, your ideas are heard, and your work helps shape the company we become.
A Message from Our CEO
We are not simply hiring someone to produce drawings. We are looking for someone who takes pride in solving difficult problems, helping our craftspeople succeed, and ensuring every project reflects the quality our customers expect from our company. You will be the reason costly mistakes are prevented before they happen. If you are energized by precision, collaboration, and seeing your work come to life, let's talk.
