Typical job duties include:
- Assisting with the installation of sports lighting poles, fixtures, and electrical wiring.
- Learning to read blueprints, electrical diagrams, and lighting plans.
- Operating hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment safely.
- Helping pull wire through conduit and connect electrical components.
- Assisting in the installation and aiming of LED sports lighting fixtures.
- Inspecting lighting systems for damage, wear, or electrical issues.
- Performing routine maintenance, such as replacing fixtures, lamps, drivers, and other components.
- Climbing ladders, poles, or using aerial lifts while following safety procedures.
- Loading, unloading, and organizing tools, equipment, and materials.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work site.
- Following OSHA safety regulations and company safety policies.
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions and occasionally traveling to job sites.
- Learning electrical codes, grounding procedures, and troubleshooting techniques from journeyman electricians or supervisors.
- Keeping records of work completed and reporting issues to supervisors.
Common qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must be able to travel 1-2 weeks at a time
- Interest in electrical work and construction.
- Ability to lift 50–75 pounds.
- Comfortable working at heights.
- Valid driver's license (often required).
- Willingness to work overtime, evenings, or weekends when projects require.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
Skills gained
