Council on Domestic Abuse, Inc. (CODA) is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and mission-driven leader to serve as our Director of Operations. This position plays a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the organization while helping advance our mission of the elimination of domestic violence and sexual assault through societal change and the empowerment of abused individuals and their minor children.
Working directly with the Executive Director, the Director of Operations provides organizational leadership, strengthens internal systems, supports department directors, and fosters relationships with community partners, funders, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who enjoys solving problems, building efficient systems, supporting staff, and helping nonprofit organizations grow.
Position Summary
The Director of Operations is responsible for ensuring the effective daily operation of the organization by supporting leadership, improving organizational processes, assisting with strategic planning, and coordinating agency-wide initiatives. This position serves as a key member of the leadership team and helps ensure that CODA continues to provide high-quality, trauma-informed services to survivors.
This position is based at CODA's Administrative Office located at 21 S. 17th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, with flexibility for occasional remote work when appropriate and approved.
Essential Responsibilities:
Organizational Leadership
- Partner with the Executive Director to implement the organization's strategic vision and operational goals.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating organizational policies, procedures, and operational systems.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and organizational effectiveness.
- Coordinate cross-department communication and promote collaboration among leadership staff.
- Assist with organizational planning and special projects.
Staff Leadership & Support
- Provide guidance and operational support to department directors.
- Assist leadership staff with staffing challenges, scheduling concerns, and problem-solving.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable workplace culture.
- Help promote a trauma-informed, survivor-centered work environment.
- Participate in leadership meetings and assist with organizational decision-making.
Community Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, including law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, courts, healthcare providers, businesses, nonprofit organizations, donors, and community leaders.
- Represent CODA professionally at community meetings, collaborative partnerships, fundraising events, and public functions as assigned.
Fundraising & Development
- Assist the Executive Director with fundraising initiatives and donor stewardship.
- Support grant writing, grant reporting, and grant compliance activities.
- Help coordinate donor communications, special events, and community engagement efforts.
- Assist in identifying new funding opportunities and partnerships.
Operations & Compliance
- Help oversee agency operations to ensure efficient service delivery.
- Assist in monitoring compliance with agency policies, grant requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of survivor information in accordance with the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), agency policies, and all applicable confidentiality requirements.
- Support the operational success of CODA's mobile advocacy service model by ensuring effective communication, coordination, and resource allocation across service areas.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Human Services, Social Work, or a related field, or equivalent leadership experience.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to develop long-term strategies while managing day-to-day operations.
- Experience creating and improving organizational processes.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout the service area as needed.
Preferred
- Leadership experience within a nonprofit or human services organization.
- Experience with grant-funded programs.
- Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, victim services, or trauma-informed care.
- Experience with fundraising, donor development, or grant management.
Schedule
This is a full-time exempt position generally working Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to support agency operations, board meetings, fundraising events, community activities, or emergencies. Participation in the agency's on-call rotation is required.
