Position Summary
Presbyterian Ear Institute Oral School has the opportunity for a qualified Support Teacher to join our teaching team! The support teacher supports our classrooms by assisting the lead classroom teachers with delivering age‐ appropriate lessons, providing direct supervision and active engagement of our students in language-rich learning activities within a fun-filled, supportive environment, breakfast/lunch, nap, and recess duty, etc. Our students are a mix of children with hearing loss, speech delays, and typically developing peer models. Please note, sign language is not a requirement as we are an oral school.
This is a Monday through Friday position, full time, 8:00am - 5:00pm.
Assisting lead teachers with preparation and/or delivery of instructional material; music and games, art, reading, math activities, etc.
- Assist lead teacher with tracking student progress
- Assisting in one-on-one and small group activities;
- Assisting in caring for student needs: May include such duties as feeding, cleaning, toileting, clothing changes, and assisting with other daily living activities;
- Assisting in management of students who may be disruptive or combative;
- Assisting with supervision of students on the playground, cafeteria, restrooms, etc.
- Participating in staff meetings, in-service training, and other school activities
- Performing clerical duties for teachers;
- Performing substitute duties as assigned;
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must hold a minimum of an AA degree in early childhood education, special education, related degree, OR be enrolled in an ECE program
- Teaching, EA, or alternative licensure, preferred
- Excellent communication and instructional skills
- Ability to lift 30 lbs.
