Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer - Assembly Operations (1st Shift)
Location: Horicon, WI 53032 (100% Onsite - 1501 West Lake Street)
Pay Rate: $37 - $40 per hour on W2
Duration: 24 Months Contract with Extension
Shift: 1st Shift | Monday – Friday | 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM (Must be open to off-shift support as needed; overtime possible)
Job Summary
We are seeking an energetic, proactive Manufacturing Engineer I to join our Utility Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering team in Horicon, WI. In this role, you will spend approximately 50% of your time directly on the production shop floor supporting assembly operations, resolving real-time manufacturing challenges, and optimizing production methods.
Working closely with wage employees, assembly teams, and operations leaders, you will troubleshoot assembly line bottlenecks, assist in tooling/process improvements, and help deliver high-quality utility vehicle builds. This 2-year contract is an excellent opportunity for early-career engineers or experienced technicians eager to make a direct impact in a world-class manufacturing facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Shop Floor Line Support: Spend ~50% of shift time on the shop floor collaborating with production operators to troubleshoot assembly issues, resolve line stoppages, and implement practical solutions.
- Assembly Process & Tooling: Support the design, specification, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, assembly methods, ergonomic layouts, and production tooling.
- Engineering Validation & Feasibility: Contribute to feasibility testing of proposed engineering solutions and collect baseline data to validate design changes.
- Standards & Documentation: Draft, update, and maintain assembly standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and engineering specifications.
- Cross-Functional Communication: Serve as a bridge between shop floor assemblers, quality specialists, and engineering managers, communicating project progress and technical updates effectively.
- Onsite Facility Mobility: Complete safety certification to operate utility vehicles (John Deere Gator) inside the plant to transport tools and computer equipment between assembly bays.
Required Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Electrical) or related technical discipline (Recent graduates with engineering internship/co-op experience are welcome to apply). OR
- High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 3+ years of hands-on manufacturing engineering / technical assembly experience.
- Problem Solving & Agility: Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to handle high-pressure assembly line situations calmly and methodically.
- Communication & Engagement: Outstanding interpersonal and verbal communication skills across all levels—from hourly production workers to executive leadership.
- Physical & Safety Demands:
- Ability to spend ~50% of the workday walking or standing on the factory floor.
- Capability to lift up to 35 lbs occasionally.
- Must possess and wear Metatarsal safety boots on Day 1.

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience or internships focused on assembly line balancing, tooling design, or utility vehicle/automotive manufacturing.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement frameworks.
