River Guides (Experienced): Great opportunity for current whitewater guides looking for supplemental employment, or former whitewater guides looking for a a more relaxed, Class I/II river experience.
River Guides must be able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in solo canoe on Class II water or above, and demonstrable knowledge of river dynamics and rescue capabilities. Must be extremely competent in reading shallow-water flats. Current CPR and First Aid certification is required, swiftwater and/or wilderness first aid training is a plus.
Responsibilities will include providing clear and engaging safety and instructional orientation and guiding guests on local or extended canoe and kayak tours. A working understanding of middle Rio Grande history, ecology, biology or geology are all helpful.
Responsibilities will also include fitting customers with life jackets and paddles, loading and unloading boats and trailers, physically transporting canoes and kayaks to and from the river, properly outfitting watercraft prior to launch, and cleaning and maintaining boats and equipment. Must have flexible schedule and sufficient fitness level to repeatedly carry 50 - 75 lb. loads 100 yards or more.
