We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Church Custodian and Handyman to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of our church facilities. Working under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Church Custodian’s primary focus is the general maintenance and cleanliness of the church facilities. Moreover, the Church Custodian is responsible for securing the church building and grounds during and at the end of shift. Please note that this is an evening position. Working hours are primarily 5:00pm - 10:00pm. Sunday is required. We are looking for an individual that is reliable, punctual, has strong adherence to schedule and proactive communicator. Fluency in English required.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and restroom sanitation to uphold high standards of cleanliness.
- Conduct routine janitorial tasks across all church areas, ensuring spaces are tidy and inviting for gatherings and events.
- Maintain floors through buffing, stripping, waxing, and other floor care techniques to preserve their appearance and safety.
- Carry out general maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, painting and touch-ups to keep facilities in excellent condition.
- Manage deep cleaning of large areas.
- Seasonal outdoor maintenance, which include but not limited to: mow lawns, trim weeds, trees, bushes; mulch, collect leaves and trash; remove snow on steps, patio, porches, sidewalks, and apply sand/salt.
- Submit weekly timesheets to Supervisor.
- Organize with Facilities Manager a monthly cleaning schedule.
- Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies.
Requirements
- Proven experience in custodial work or janitorial services
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques including floor care (buffing, stripping), and general maintenance procedures.
- Prior experience with facilities maintenance tasks such as painting, minor repairs, or equipment upkeep is highly desirable.
- Ability to operate cleaning machinery like buffers or floor scrubbers safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects safely, and perform manual tasks comfortably.
- Good communication skills and a proactive approach to identifying needs or issues within the facility.
- Must have reliable transportation and the ability to arrive punctually for all scheduled shifts.
